The Markets in Crypto-assets Regulation (MiCA) – how will the regulation affect the current crypto landscape within the EU?

On 24 September 2020, the European Commission adopted an expansive new Digital Finance Package that will transform the European economy in the coming decades. The package aims to improve competitiveness of the continent’s Fintech sector and technologies, while mitigating risk and ensuring the financial stability of the European economy. Importantly, the new regulatory framework also includes a comprehensive new legislative proposal on crypto-assets, called Markets in Crypto-assets (MiCA), that was developed to help streamline distributed ledger technology and virtual asset regulation in the EU whilst protecting users and investors. In our hybridevent we will discuss the background to the regulation and how it will affect crypto assets in the EU.
